Do you truly realize the power that you possess? It’s easy to feel like you’re insignificant in the grand scheme of things but it’s all a matter of perception. Today I’m going to share with you the 90 10 rule in hopes that these words of encouragement may remind you of just how significant you really are.
“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” – Charles R. Swindoll
Life is all about perception. The way that you perceive things will govern how you react to them. Is the glass half full or half empty? Are you telling your self “I can’t” or asking “how can?”. In stead of dwelling on all the negative that we see around us perhaps we should focus on being the change we wish to see.
It’s amazing how much peace we can have when we learn how to let certain things go. We don’t have control over many things but instead of focusing on what we can’t control perhaps we should focus on what we can control. We can’t control how people treat us but we can control how we respond to them. A peaceful response can calm the spirit of someone who is upset. The strength of a person is measured by what they are able to resist and endure. And we need to be strong to help those who are weak in order to prevent ourselves from unnecessary stress and heartache in our lives.
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% percent how you respond to it. These words can give you a whole new perspective on life. You can plan a pretty picnic but you can’t predict the weather so… bring a tent. If you don’t want to get burnt by the sun don’t expose yourself to it for long periods of time without covering up. Don’t want to get screwed in a business deal? Then don’t let someone pressure you into making a hasty decision based off emotions and give yourself time to make a logical and well informed decision.
We tend to get frustrated over what we can’t control such as people, weather and gridlock traffic. On the contrary we tend to make excuses about the things we can control such as “well he started it” or “but she shouldn’t have” and “they didn’t tell me to do it so I didn’t worry about it”. Sometimes we feel like our actions aren’t that important and other’s aren’t taking recognition but we are being watched!
Flip The Script
Perhaps we should flip that around and quit punishing ourselves and adding unnecessary stress in our lives. Instead of making excuses let’s take responsibility and ownership over our duties and actions with a strong work ethic. Let’s be proactive instead of reactive. Let’s quit trying to control the wind and accept that some things are just out of our control and that’s okay. But what we do always have control over is how we respond to situations and that’s how we can be the change we wish to see in the world around us.
