Dr. Dre Rap Flow Practice Drill | How To Rap | Rap Flow Tutorial

In this video, we’re going to do a fun rap flow practice drill. we’re going to push a cadence from the legendary rapper/ producer “Dr. Dre from his iconic verse on 2 Pac’s hit song “California Love”

My name is Cole Mize and I’ve been helping rappers perfect their rap skills on this channel for the past 10 years

Now for today’s exercise, we’re going to be using the cadences from the first 2 bars of Dr. Dre’s verse and we’re going to push these cadences in a variety of ways.

Now it’s important to note that Dr. Dre leads into the beginning of his verse starting on the 2nd 16th note of beat 4 of the bar before it.

This is a technique I like to refer to dodging the beat. Dr. Dre could have easily begun on the 4th beat and turned “now” into an 8th note but it wouldn’t have felt as aggressive due to it being a longer note.

This is a subtle difference but listen to this example of how it would have sounded with an 8th note compared to a 16th note and let me know in the comments section if you could hear the difference.

Now it’s time to throw some cadences back and forth. I’ll rap the cadence first and then you go after me and we’ll do this twice for each cadence.

And since We’re leading into the 1st beat from the bar before you will literally need to begin rapping directly after me because “ness” ends on the 1st 16th note of beat 4 and you’re supposed to begin rapping on the 2nd 16th note of beat 4.

Also, the instrumental we’re using is a beat that I produced called “Bounty Hunter” which is available on my beat store.

Now let’s get it!
